I'd attach a picture of the pipe -- I can't imagine a small gap at the coupler makes much if any difference -- the pipe still fits over the top of a lip on both the throttle body and intake itself, so no air should leak.
Aftermarket pipes are mainly aluminium and will heatsoak worse in most cases (but may produce some additional whine).
