Infact on some newer economy engines it can improve power and fuel economy.

For example, the new Focus GDI engine will make a few more HP on premium but it's also 12:1 static compression ratio(SCR). I have a suspicion that the Mazda3 does the same thing being the same SCR. Interesting fact, Mazda redesigned the skyactiv engine to use regular octane just for North America.

Hondas have adjusted for higher octane for a number of years. At least as far back as the Fit. IIRC they can effectively use up to 100 RON, which is about 94-95 AKI.

But yeah, manual recommends 93 aki. 91 aki is required. We might need to sticky the page out of the manual to discourage these posts.
