At my last home in San Jose I had home softner, and RO under sink. Got it all cheap since my brother owned a water store at the time. Had a large water tank for the RO under the house, so never ran out. Fed the ice maker too.

I was thinking more of a regular (non RO) 2 stage conventional water filter system. Economical and easy to install. Great for coffee and drinking water.
