As a note, d4-s does not eliminate buildup on the intake valves, a few were pretty grimy after 117k miles, cleaned up the buildup on the combustion chamber as well. Some flashing on the intake tells me a diy port job would yield gains, but not worth the effort for the average Joe (or those competing where the rules prohibit it). Also lapped the valves because there was some pitting and the service manual recommended it.
Even pure port injected engines and carbureted engines have about as much buildup as what you have on your valves. That's really not bad.
