Every time I've tried a magnetic smartphone mount I've ended up with a smartphone that was utterly incapable of calibrating the compass accurately. I had to just learn that whatever it said was north was actually about 45 degrees left of north (or whatever, varied from phone to phone.)

I’ve had issues like that before, but it was years ago.
I don’t think I’ve experienced that with any of my phones in the past few years.
