imho if you're on the oem (or an oem replacement like koni or bilstein) strut you're probably going to be served just fine by a 17x8 w/ 225/45/17 and more camber via camber bolts and maybe a camber plate.
This is all based on the mk1, I've heard rumors it's less good on the mk2 but haven't seen any proof. As above higher offset needed in the rear anyway so getting a +45 would be my baseline.
