What I'm wondering is, when I reinstall the seat, does the light go out on its own? Or would I need to follow up each "seat removal" with a trip to the dealer to have the SRS module reset?

If you buy an OBD-II ELM 327 and also buy the carista app on any smartphone, you can disable the airbag light before the seat removal. When you reinstall the seat you re-enable it and you should be fine.

It's also able to be done through techstream easily if you have a usb-ob2 cable compatible with techstream.

Also it's honestly worth it getting a bluetooth OBD-II dongle and some obd2 app on your phone with it at this point, it's kind of indispensable at this point in the automotive world if you ever want to fix things yourself.
