They absolutely heat up. On warmer days, you need to bring a water sprayer to keep your tires cool. It only takes one 45-60 second autocross run to bring them up to a good temperature. Even with 5-10 minutes between runs, your second run will be significantly grippier, and your third run will be even grippier. If you get shoehorned into a re-run in between, though, you can sometimes get buttfucked by an overheated tire if you don't get the 5 minutes between runs you are supposed to get.
