Jason, the cam phasing strategy is here somewhere (I'll look/link tomorrow). It's around 50° range each if memory serves.
What I'm doing is tracking the time the pulses travel to reflection points based to lengths and rpm then converting to degrees. So if a pulse returns during overlap it's good (or bad). So I set my lengths then go over the rev range in 500 rpm steps, noting when the returns arrive. Can draw a bit of a 'map' where exhaust acoustic scavenging will increase and decrease in the rev range. So early/late returns we can phase the overlap a bit to 'catch' (or avoid) pulses with the AVCS.
