I park mine outside as well and yes surface ice will freeze them up and there is nothing that can be done about that. My Lancer was even worse when it froze up with the surface stuff.
The crack noise is just the glass sticking to the rubber seal when it is warm. There is quite a bit of pressure pushing against the seal and when it get really warm it sticks a bit. This happens with all frameless windows (if they are sealed well that is) and is nothing to worry about.
