BOVs:
A) Yes, there is a Blow Off Valve (or bypass valve) in the HKS S/C kit and it works the same & serves 1/2 the function of a BOV on a turbo car [on a turbo'd car the BOV relieves intake pressure to help keep the turbo spinning - on a s/c'd car the engine is keeping the s/c spinning regardless]. It relieves a pressure spike against the throttle plate and compressor wheel and prevents that additional (unwanted) air to cause a lean spike.
B) Mechanically - sure you could install a different BOV in place of the BOV included in the s/c kit. You'd have to adapt a flange, but a SSQV (for example) would serve the same purpose as the included BOV (though I'm sure the hysteresis & response would be drastically different)
C) I've never capped the s/c inlet to be able to VTA so I have no idea how the included BOV would sound. Based on the design & size differences, I'm sure it's nothing like a SSQV would sound. Since that air has already been metered by the MAF, we may get rich spikes and throw CELs for the missing air & extra fuel. And now you guys have me curious....
