I'm glad someone brought this up... Mods are cool and all, but please think about the safety aspect, if ANYTHING is in the trunk, even just hitting the brakes hard can and will send it forward. I highly recommend finding a way to anchor it at the bottom. That might remove some of the convenience, but I'd rather those two 12-packs in the trunk stay in the trunk instead of smashing against the back of my seat and dumping 5 bottles of broken glass and beer all over the place because some cockwad wanted our cars to kiss.

Also for CF/FG, I'd recommend a premade honeycomb panel for some stiffness. A big flat sheet like that will flex and possibly be a little noisy, but even just 1/4" of honeycomb will make it substantially stiffer without making it heavier. A 2-core-2 layup would be plenty.
