I appreciate this line of pondering...I'll throw this thought in there (and it's been shared before as well):
I often consider that the FR-S and BRZ will be a one generation and done product. I personally don't want this to be the case, but I think it has be a possibility. Instead of increasing the output of this engine and possibly upgrading transmission and brakes, I think it much more likely that Toyota will finally build a successor to the Supra (or resurrect the Celica) as their sports car offering....and Subaru will either develop another sports car/coupe solo or simply stay with turbo-charged, all AWD vehicles, with the STi remaining as their flagship performance car.
If it plays out like this, our cars will become relatively unique in the wild, but maintaining/repairing them will become a royal bitch.
