Try using compound and a microfiber towel, and see if that rubs off. Might just be from the plastic cover on the car. I noticed it on the rooftop and spoiler, but nothing deep like you described.

Yeah, it's the STi rear quarter & side skirts. I also have the diffuser but you can't tell from those images. Hoping they release the new front spoiler soon. It'll complete the look I'm going for.
