I wouldn't spend any more time, energy or money until that bypass valve is replaced. They are notorious for leaking, especially the old style.

Fixed the #3 misfire at WOT. Coil packs were 9 years old with 65K miles on them, I guess they had a good life. Didn't jack the engine and the Edelbrock cooling hoses made it difficult to deal with #1...

A poor electrical connection (at that crimp or the lug) will also generate that kind of heat and would not blow the fuse down line.
