Thanks for the helpful response! Glad to hear it can be done. The steering wheel is from a TRD model, so definitely manual (as is my FR-S).

Edit: This is now a DIY on retrofitting 2017+ steering wheels with SWC onto 2012-16 FR-S. This will probably work for pre-2016 BRZ as well.

Nevermind, I found the solution. In this condition, a short exists in speaker wiring. You have to eliminate the short, then the sound comes back.

Update: checked amp and head unit fuse just to be sure, both look fine. Upon researching this further, I learned that I had probably spliced the camera's ground into right front speaker (-) (pin 5)...
