I'd be careful with putting a driver on/in a box with uncured silicone. The fumes can deteriorate foam surrounds. It also makes removing the driver a pain. I just use foam tape. Does the same thing...

Sounds like you need some sort of pivot arm. So when you pull the strap out, it rotates and pulls the release cable forward. Add in a spring tensioner to get the reset right.
