SCAM/PHISHING ATTEMPT
It appears that the EZ Pass System may be the latest business to be targeted by scammers. Received an e-mail that looks very official
E-ZPass Service Center Dear customer, You have not paid for driving on a toll road. This invoice is sent repeatedly, please service your debt in the shortest possible time. It has a link to click (which I didn't) so be aware if you receive this e-mail. I have contacted Md. EZ Pass to report this and will update when I get a response which may be 5 business days. (Great service huh?) |

Let us know for sure. Thx |
scammers are usually foreigners who have a poor command of common everyday english. their verbiage is usually the result of google translate or something.

Looks good.

I sent a reply back to the e-mail asking for date, time, year, make and model of car and the road that I was on when the infraction occurred. Of course, it bounced as undeliverable/failure. It also gave the address and IP address of where it went out to so I can forward that to the EZ Pass folks when they reply. So I'd say it was a scam.

I doubt that you got the good IP address if the email failed to reach its destination.

I tried to go to the website and got this:
This Connection is Untrusted You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.xxxxxxxxxxx.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure. Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified. What Should I Do? If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue. |

UPDATE: It's a phishing scam as suspected. I had to call the EZ Pass people because they never responded to my e-mail. Lady said they are aware of it and are trying to put a stop to it. It has been on the news, radio etc. They don't have a fraud site to forward anything to them and said to just delete it. So there you go.
Got another phishing e-mail today from some law firm. Geez, these people never stop. |
