Its been said numerous times but here it is:
ZN6 = 86/GT86/FR-S
ZC6 = BRZ

What did you type to "search"? Did you use "chassis number"? Cuz that doesn't find crap lol.

Probably chassis code which is the correct way of saying it anyways :)

dookie11 05-01-2012 12:34 AM

yeah tried chassis tag, chassis number etc. I googled it.
even tried searching 4ugse 4u-gse (thinking this is the toyota engine code)? but didn't bring up much.

So toyota is using the subaru coding? "ZN6"
So Toyota not using the engine initial as the first initial in the chassis code anymore?
hmmm

No, Subaru is using Subaru coding. Regardless of what badges are on the cars, they all have Subaru VIN numbers. The first two characters of the VINs; JF stand for Japan, Fuji Heavy Industries. Subaru is building the cars and stamping the VIN plates so they use their own system. Toyota may have their own code for the car, but the "ZN6" that everyone is quoting comes from the designation that Subaru uses for the 86/FR-S.

Actually, I think the "6" in ZN6 is incorrect. The engine code in the VINs is "A".

It should be ZN6

^^ mine is ZCA

Time to add two more chassis codes to my lexicon of useless nerd speak!

VIN's rarely correlate to the actual chassis code, this is true for both Subaru and Toyota. Toyota is not issuing any of their own chassis codes or model codes to this car, they are using Subaru-assigned codes across the board. ZN6 is the chassis code, FA20 is the engine code. It turns out 4U-GSE is not an official name for the engine.

FHI Model Codes for North American FR-S / BRZ:

ZN = FR-S / ZC = BRZ
6 = 2.0L DOHC RWD (Naturally Aspirated) (FA20)
A = 2012 Model Year, subsequent years will be B, C, etc.
Y = USA or Canada Destination / 2 = Japan Destination / K = Europe (?)
A = RA (Japan BRZ) or RC (Japan 86) Grade / B = Premium (USA BRZ), Premier (Canada BRZ), R (Japan BRZ) or G (Japan 86) Grade / C = Standard Grade (FR-S) / E = Limited (USA BRZ), Sport Tech (Canada BRZ), S (Japan BRZ) or GT (Japan 86) Grade
(Basically: A = Stripped Spec, B = Low Spec, C = Mixed Spec FR-S, E = High Spec)
7 = Auto (TX6A) / 8 = Manual (TL70)

Option Codes (California-emissions states may have different option code, I've not seen enough to know, plus I'm in Canada):

U4NT = USA Destination FR-S
U4NJ = USA Destination BRZ Premium
U4NG = USA Destination BRZ Limited

C0NT = Canada Destination FR-S
C0NJ = Canada Destination BRZ Premier
C0NG = Canada Destination BRZ Sport Tech
