Stock FA20 rods

I’m leaning toward supercharging my future BRZ, and I’m wondering if the rods and other stock internal bits can handle around 50% increase in bhp and torque. Do the FA20D (BRZ) and FA20F (WRX) have the same engine aside from the turbo?

Depends on what you are doing with the car and how hard you intend to drive it, supporting mods, fuel, ect.

There is a whole section of the forum dedicated to FI, maybe browse around different setups to get an idea.

The BRZ and WRX FA20's are not the same. WRX FA20 has stronger rods, low compression pistons(10:1 I think), bigger oil pump. It also does not have the Toyota D4S fuel injection system. It is direct injection only.

Why supercharger? Streetlight fun? Drag car? Road racing?

Keep low rpm load to a minimum (don't floor it under 3k rpm) and run under 300whp or 240wtq.

I'd you insist on a supercharger, go with a centrifugal unit and enjoy.
Check your oil level, keep on top of maintenance, and you'll be good

It depends on the car and the use, and maybe it depends on how much the car was seasoned before boost, but 50% more hp/torque is no problem. I’d imagine there is a fair number of us who are closer to having 100% more.

Spun bearings are far more common than broken rods. Caused by oil starvation and/or lack of maintenance.

Especially under 300whp.

I’ve had my Edlebrock for a year and a half. I’ve had no issues at all. It recently dynoed at 287 whp. The driving experience is great. This is how it should be.

Year 2 with mine and almost 20k miles, problem free.

Total waste of money, but a lot of fun!

If you don't track it, it's probably fine. If you track heavily it's gonna take a LOT of work to keep it alive..
