BingeTokyo Circuit Days - Track Prep
I'm finally pulling the trigger and going to a track day with the FR-S, I have did a few autocross days but this will be a bit different.
The event is still open to register, but it starts this weekend. BingeTokyo Circuit Days: Spring Saturday, Mar 16 — Sunday, Mar 17, 2019 NCM Motorsport Park, Bowling Green, KY Register Here I'm taking along my 2014 Scion FR-S but over the past few weeks I have been gathering supplies and upgrading the brakes. I'm also located in the St. Louis area so it's a drive to get their. I will be heading down there on Friday. In the following post I will document a bit on what I needed to do to the car, and how it was on the track. I will be renting a transponder, so I should be able to give everyone my horrible novice track times. :bellyroll: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7814/...4c90dda6_h.jpg |
Current Plan...
Safety first and since they require it, I bought a auto helmet. I went with a Arai GP-6S Racing Helmet / SA-2015. Found a good deal for it on eBay for $650 US. Seems to run at around $850 US. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7871/...08dc8fb020.jpg I also picked up some premixed coolant and a quart of oil 0W-20. I'm taking some detailing supplies, camera, funnel, chairs, a cooler, and a overnight bag. Current Mods: Brake upgrade is happening right now in the import shop.

If you are able, return those mixed duty pads for track pads. You won't regret the change.
An oil cooler should be next! |
Ya, I bought them a while back so I will change to a pure track pad once I grind these down. I have heard that the engine oil runs hot. As I already have a MISHIMOTO intake I will likely go with their oil cooler as well. They seem to fit my view of proper aesthetics. It also fits with their air filterbox. Should be a interesting weekend for sure.

I would not recommend the Mishimoto oil cooler. I've seen their banjos back out frequently on tracked cars.

Would their be a way to wire them down military style? I believe the Perrin version would hit the air box I have...
|
Instead of big brake kit, I’d rather find a way to direct more airflow to cool the front brakes. I will have to look up the model they used, but a YouTube Channel I seen showed that after they attached a Porsche air cooling deflector it significantly reduced the temperatures.

Safety wiring them together will do the trick, but that's extra work that shouldn't be necessary! |
Have fun this weekend! I'll be doing both days of their June event. I've got another event this weekend that I'll be attending instead of Binge.

NCM is a great track. You should have a great time.
Drive isnt too bad, maybe 4 hrs depending on traffic. |

I am trying to find a daily/track balance, so I am hoping the cooling combined with milder track pads will work for me, but the general advice is to go straight for the dedicated tracks pads.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...48661af39f.jpg |
The helmet came today and fits pretty snug, so it looks like I'm all set for this weekend.
My wife is happy it seems for other reasons, alone time for one and she has let me know that if I wreak the car that it is the end of it... (She has a love/hate *mostly hate of the car) Though for me it adds some excitement, like hey don't mess up you. Since I will be going to the track and seem to be the only 86 platform there, I plan on representing what 17k and Japanese sport car heritage can do... The list of other cars, some are pretty high end: 70ish cars in total

There will be other 86s' there. Seak out Matt with his white BRZ (as long as he finishes his ITB tune).
Tell him I sent ya and he'll get you squared away on how to drive ;) |
