Engine light and TC light at around 3-4000rpm

Hey All,

Been away from the fourm for a while due to work and moving but I'm back and in need of some advice from you very knowledgeable people. My friend bought a 2013 frs with 46000km,no mod's besides a Trd catback, injen intake, and coil overs. He is having a issue with the car,I hooked my scanner up to it and got the famous P0351,not a bid deal just gonna replace the #1 coil pack and probably the DI seals and plugs just to be sure..but when he drives the car under load(like going up a hill) and hits 3-4000 rpm the check engine light comes on and the TC light comes on and the TC cuts in which in turn looses power(definitely no wheel spin happening)..turn the TC off and the check engine light still pops on but the TC don't kick in and no loss of power..my question is the TC kicking in related to the P0351 or do I have to look for another problem.

Thanks in advance

Yes. This is commonly called "limp mode" and is engineered to protect the car from further damage by pushing it during some CEL event. Bet the cruise doesn't work when it happens. Fix the issue causing the CEL and all will be good.

P0351, coil A failing. Its the coipack on the passenger side (right) the further back one if you are looking at the car from the front. You can either replace it yourself (30mins or so, it just a few bolts and it comes off) or you can take it to a dealership/garage for them to do it. Once that is changed, everything will be back to normal. Including the issues you have with the TC lights (see @Tcoat explanation for that).

Thanks to both of you for the quick response.I will be doing the work myself,I'm familiar with the cars and have done coil packs and DI seal's before just I wanted to be sure the TC kicking is wasn't another issue I would have the try to diagnose..thanks again to the both of you, greatly appreciated
