Meadlowlands AutoX March23rd

AutoX at the meadlowlands March 23rd

I registered, it'll be my first time going so I am in the Novice C Stock class.

Anyone else going to this?

engee 03-08-2013 11:03 AM

There are a handful of us that regularly autocross at the meadowlands. You'll see us there.

If you look at the attendee list, you'll see who is registered. Glad to see 2 new frs's signed up in novice class.

AZP Installs 03-08-2013 12:36 PM

Look for the AZP Installs Auto-x/HPDE/TT/Road Racing contingency program in the next few months. We've done 1000s of auto-xes and are certified road race instructors, so we are looking to start helping out folks who use their cars for these kind of events! :)

You'll have a good time.

Here's some quick tips for ya since it is your first time:

Things to bring to autocross event
Valid drivers license
Money
Helmet (if you have one, if not they have rentals)
Layers of warm clothing in case the weather turns cold
Plenty of drinking water, and food for lunch
Sunscreen (weather dependent)
And anything else you think you would need for a day outside

In terms of car prep:
You will want to clean out your car and over-inflate your tires. Over-inflating your tires will cause your tires to have a stiffer sidewalls (especially needed if you are running the stock tires). Also a good idea to check your fluids before the event as well.

Once you get to the event,

1) Go to have fun! You are doing this because you want to drive your car and get to hoon about legally!

2) Remember to walk the course (and do it more than once). You don't get practice laps in autocrossing so it's a big deal. There will also be a novice course walk to help you understand the course better.

3) Get an instructor! Novice class at NNJR need to run with an instructor for their first couple of runs. They can ride with you to give you pointers in what to look for. There will be other events later in the year you can work on going faster (still, you can ask for an instructor then too). For all your runs, you can ask for an instructor to get the biggest bang for the buck. They will be more than happy to help!

4) Go fast in the fast places and slow in the slow places. That may seem like common sense, but you'll understand why especially when you start.

5) Remember to have fun!!!

KSC 03-09-2013 11:11 AM

I really want to go, but I don't know if I'm willing to subject a bone stock BRZ to that kinda of stress before I even make the first payment. Thinking about it, though.

hyper4mance 03-09-2013 11:53 AM

Eh I babied it the first time going to an autox last season - I didn't brake nearly as hard as I should have. Although I didn't get fast times especially compared to the other brzs there, its all about personal improvement each run, learning how your car handles (and how big of a grin you can get), and just having some good ol fashioned fun.
If you have time KSC, I'd recommend just trying it out. Instructors are definitely helpful if you've never done one before.

Are these autox events usually Saturday or sunday?
