1/4 Mile times

We took our new FR-S to the track today. It was pretty hot most of the day, but we wound up with some decent times.

Here is the best of the night with our FR-S full interior full vehicle weight (including spare/jack) With a 10-15mph headwind and a humid 84*F, Car # 592;

Here is the best of the night with minor weight reduction (spare & jack removed, rear seats removed) & intake filter removed with a 10-15 mph headwind and a humid 80*F Car #592;

http://www.ddperformanceresearch.com...20headwind.jpg

Both of these were with Jason (My shop manager) at the wheel. My best for the night was a 15.10.

All in all I am pleased and unsurprised by these numbers - they are exactly what we expected from the dyno and articles already published.

Broke into the 14s there, stock I see. Very nice job!

What rpms were you launching at?

That 60' is very good for a stock RWD car on stock tires, better than some cars with stickier tires and much better torque. That G37 only managed a 2.1 and that is about right too.

I am surprised removing the intake filter made that much difference. This could mean good possibilities of power improvement with a good intake mod. Lets be honest the 30lbs of spare stuff probably had little effect on the 1/4mi time and certainly is not likely to be responsible for gaining 1mph in the entire range.

Thats actually a 50%-75% dump from redline.

And it was 70 pounds of stuff, not 30. But yeah, you would expect 1/10th at best from that much weight drop normally.

When we were practicing launches at the shop we found that a 5500-6K frop with slight clutch slip followed by throttle modulation gave the best results for a street type surface. (our lot is concrete)

I like seeing real world numbers rather than speculation.

We now know for sure that the manual runs 14.9 stock with a redline launch.

We also know through another thread that the auto runs 16.5 stock.

It should run quicker than a 16.5 stock...

Given the autos cannot launch at redline, losing 1.5 second does not seem out of line. Here is the other page where an auto was run with a best of 16.5. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7796

I think it has a 14.7 in it (stock) with slightly cooler ambient temps.

I managed a 15.697 last week. It was my first time at the drag strip, and this is my first RWD car. I can obviously do better :)

I just hit 1,000 miles yesterday, so I'll be running this thursday also. We can see who can run the top times then ;)

I think you may have a slight weight advantage on me though haha

have you done any mods yet? I'm going to be stock this week, then when they offer a tuning solution, will probably do intake/exhaust/tune.

Max Schnell 06-12-2012 11:11 AM

Hey post your slips when you are done. The information on there can tell us alot about what is going on.

I'd like to see more auto numbers from those that figured out how to launch it too. Would be interesing to see if the auto can hit 14.9.
