Facelift Intake Manifold to Pre-Facelift

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I currently drive an automatic 2012 Toyota GT86. The red intake that comes on the facelift manual 86s/BRZs has recently been on my mind.

Would this be a straightforward swap onto my car? Does MT/AT make an issue? I read that the ECU bracket needs to be modified, or the stock ECU bracket from the facelift can also be mounted and used?

Are there any negatives / cons of doing this?

As far as I can see the positives:

- Looks better
- Small upgrade over what I have now (including a few extra HP, though this is not necessarily what I am chasing, just would be nice).

Thanks in advance for any advice. My primitive knowledge of cars told me there wouldn't be many differences between AT and MT apart from transmission stuff but I find more and more new things every day.

Is there any actual data indicating the red intake manifold makes any extra power?

Not sure if anyone had just tested the intake. It was the intake and exhaust changes in 17 that gave the extra 5hp.

Pretty sure it doesn't, unless you're ballooning the plastic intake with 50 PSI on a 6266 and nitrous

Yes, this is a guy here in Japan who did it on his pre-facelift BRZ and he went from 170.03PS to 172.82PS. Details here with dyno photos:

Obviously 2HP is a very very tiny gain, this is not what I am hanging onto. Just strengthens the "why not" argument I guess.

It's a straight forward install, but you'll need some parts to be 100% oem
https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...ostcount=20969

800105230 (Sensor bolt)
14047AB150 (ECU Bracket) left side
and the fuel cover --> Right side sorry dont remember the part number.
16175AA520 (gasket), and maybe some hose clamps.

Just paint your stock one red and call it a day.

Do you think there will be any problems with the fact my car is Automatic? Something in the ECU?

Sorry, fairly new to this so I just wanna make 100% sure. The AT has screwed me over a few times now lol.

I have read if you are not going FI, is good looking worthless part. Plastic have better and constant cool intake temperature iirc

Do you had any trouble with lightweight pulley? I heard mixed opinions

I know that the automatics came with the plastic manifold and the manuals got the red one. I'm not sure why subaru/toyota did that, but I don't see why you'll run into problems since everything including the sensors transfer over. If anything the sensor will just tell the ecu everythings running as nothing changed. I think you'll be fine.

4yrs running fine and haven't noticed anything strange. I installed it around the same time I got lighter wheels so I couldn't tell ya if I noticed a difference. Probably best to just leave it stock.
