what more can i do for a lighter front end?
I`m trying to lighten up the front end to balance the car a bit better, and so far I have done the KC machines battery kit with the Shorai battery. That alone was a huge improvement in terms of feel of the car. I was quite impressed from the amount of difference it made, despite the position of the battery being so close to the center of the car.
things already done: tomei UEL header (-5lbs) tomei overpipe (-1lb) Shorai battery kit (-22.75lbs) intake snorkel and some other stuff (maybe a -1lb) to-do list: Beatrush bumper beam ( i believe it`s -5 lbs) APR brake ducts (gets rid of the fog lights.. no idea how much those weigh) drain or get rid of washer fluid tank (no idea how much it weighs..) things that will add/have added weight: STI front lip (probably 2-3lbs) oil cooler (no idea how much it would weigh) other ideas I have are brake kits that lose weight like the AP racing front kit (Sprint kit is 20lbs, Endurance kit 10lbs)... Wheels will help, but that is an overall weight loss rather than just the front end. At the end of the day, overall weight loss is more important than the balance, but just trying to see what I can do with the front end of the car first... |
Remove bumper and headlights?? haha jk, what about removing skid plates or a dry carbon hood (only like 2 lbs less) do a big brake kit those can save some unsprung mass off the front and preform better them oem?
|
That would be hard.... But most weight easy savings should be from suspension/wheel components?
|
Lighter fenders, remove ac, remove stereo/speakers, floor mats, lighter flywheel, lighter wheels and tires, lighter pulleys, lighter brakes...
|
I wouldn't mess with the bumper beam since this is a street car. No point in making it more susceptible to damage.
Then again, if you claim you can tell a HUGE difference from the battery change alone (lolz) maybe it's worth. The small Wilwood BBK that FT86SF sells pulls 32lbs out of the front brakes (both sides combined). |
Why the front end?
What is your end goal (other than "a lighter car")? Why the front end specifically? You want to lose weight but you don't explain why the front end. You can easily accomplish the same w/ bucket seats, taking out all the stuff in the trunk, swapping your trunk, and removing the glass... -alex |
My guess would be IIRC, the F/R weight distribution on this car is 58/42 stock.
But I'm guessing it's because the car is "FUH RAZE!" |
Lose some weight off that bigazz!
Then look here: Anthony's 4 Step Diet Program @Anthony Also... Much lighter wheels and tires (you chose both heavy wheels & tires) Much lighter front seats PTuning Washer bottle Battery relocation to trunk Carbon Fiber Fenders Aluminum oil pan Single DIN head-unit or Stereo delete Raceseng (or other) AC delete Growler tube delete (if not already done) |
Remove the interior except drivers seat. Wheels.
If this is a street car the cost/lb will be shocking! Lose weight (body) and lower/slide your seat to the max. If you take off 100 lbs and find the difference profound then more power to you, and your wallet. |

Moving 7lbs to the back is negligible, not to mention, you'd lose a chunk of the weight savings back in running the aught gauge cable back to the front of the car. |
Not the front, but there is a nice rear seat delete kit that drops 29lbs.

btw, the cable weighs about 2lbs spread over the lowest point in the car (the floor). I had to research this a while back. |

To the OP, what exactly are you trying to change about the car? You're saying you want to improve the balance of the car, but you didn't post your previous balance numbers. |
