King Tut's Time Attack Build

It says member's car journals. It doesn't say it has to be a BRZ/FR-S. :D

This is for my new to me 2006 Honda S2000 in stunning Laguna Blue Pearl. I ended up buying it two days after my Laguna Seca Blue E92 M3 sold. I had been searching for months while waiting for the right buyer to come along for the M3, and as soon as it was gone I made my decision. I ended up with this 2006 model with 102,000 miles on the clock for $17,000. It was all stock other than the powder coated OEM AP2 V2 wheels and a set of Ground Control coilovers on OEM struts. The previous owner was the owner of a Honda performance shop in the Tampa/St. Pete area called LHT Performance. He had only had it for a short time and decided that driving a small S2000 was too uncomfortable for his taller frame. In that time he put on a brand new OEM Honda soft top, new clutch, new flywheel, new starter, new primary O2 sensor, and new Potenza tires. This was the lowest priced Laguna Blue S2000 I had found, and it seemed to have been really well cared for considering the mileage. The prices on these were all over the place from $30k for one with 4k miles to $25k for one with 25k miles.

The plan from the time I decided to sell my M3 was to make a full out time attack / NASA time trials car that I can still drive on the streets occasionally. I had considered doing an air cooled Porsche, but they don't really seem to be competitive and are more just for DE weekends. The choice then came down to another BRZ or an S2000. I found some decent deals on the BRZs with relatively low mileage 2013 Limiteds listing for as low as $21k. In the end though I had already built one of those, and I was still not 100% sure the aftermarket support was there to have one survive the kind of track driving I intend on doing.

As you will notice, the car has a Forbidden USA Double Sided 1x1 Carbon Fiber Mugen Replica Hard Top installed. I had wanted this exact hard top since before I purchased the car, and through the S2ki classifieds I happened to find a nearly brand new one for sale locally in Fort Walton Beach, so I snagged it as my first and only modification thus far. The plans include a turbo kit, V mount radiator/intercooler setup, big wing, front splitter, a high end coilover setup, 17x9s mounted with 245 width Hoosier A7s, and the Essex AP Racing front brake kit just to mention some of the bigger items.

The goal will be running in the NASA Time Trials TT3 class which is the lowest of the three weight to horsepower classes where you still have to take a penalty for non OEM aero. I also have to take a penalty for the Mugen replica hard top as it modified the "OEM roofline", but I plan to run around 315 whp at 3000 lbs with me in the car. The plan with the turbo kit is to have it make max boost and that 315 whp at as low an RPM as I can and then use timing/boost level manipulation to keep a flat horsepower curve all the way to 8000 RPM to fully maximize the horsepower limitation. I may later up the power and move up to TT2 as well in the future if the 245s can handle the additional power.

I hope to keep this car for quite a long time as I build it and track it. Now for what everyone has been waiting for, the pictures. As always, comments and questions are more than welcome.

Yeah the fact that the previous owner had done all the maintenance at a local Honda dealer and the car came with tons of maintenance just performed as well such as new spark plugs, oil change, transmission fluid change, diff fluid change, and a valve adjustment. It drives great for a 100,000 mile car, and I have no fears of turbocharging a high milage Honda. I will probably run it near 400 whp on 93 octane on the street.

Dat engine placed so far back in chassis for dat front/mid engine configuration. Just leaves more room for the V mount setup. Single turbo, most likely GTX3076R and possibly twin scroll.

Hmmm...you better win.
