SPC LCA Alignment Issue?

Hello,

I installed SPC LCA with yesterday and am getting an alignment today. Requested -1.5 front/1.0 rear camber with 0 toe up front and slight toe in on rear.

I get a call from the shop saying the front is no issue, they got what I requested....BUT they can only get camber to -4.0 on the driver rear and -2.6 passenger rear.... :confused0068:

Any thoughts on what is going on here? He said his senior mechanic was off today and will take a look monday...But figured I'd ask if anyone would have any clue as to why it would be off so much...

BTW, I am lowered ~1" all around with Fortune 500 coilovers. Previously on stock alignment......

And thoughts appreciated....:thanks:

My thought is he doesn't know what he's doing. Lowering 1 inch should get you around -2 to -2.5 naturally. The SPC arms should give you +/- 2 degrees from that point, or around -4.5 to -0.5 total. Maybe he doesn't realize they're adjustable, or if he does, that they adjust by sliding the bottom of the hub in or out vs. adjusting at the subframe like other arms.

I would suggest finding a performance/suspension shop that knows how to set up these cars. A corner balance would also be useful.

I can think of at least one place in MD that can help you out...

ssidd 02-18-2017 04:20 PM

Thank you for the responses. I explained to him initially about the cam bolt to adjust the hub. They understood that as they have seen similar stuff with lifted trucks...:iono:

Pure Automotive was the closest one in MD that was recommended in the regional forums. But they are only open M-F 8-5...and are about ~1.5 hours from where I'm located. Unfortunately, I can not accommodate those hours or find time to leave the car with them...

Hopefully the other guy Monday has a better idea...

Do they realize that they have to play with the rear toe and camber at the same time since they affect each other? My alignment guy took a while to get it just where I wanted it and I'm lowered 1" on KW V3's.

Hey Guys, Need your advice.

Alignment guy has the following measurements..

Camber
Left Rear -3.7
Right Rear -3.3

Toe
Left Rear 0.09
Right Rear 0.08

He can't get the Camber in anymore.... Now the Alignment Tech, didn't know about the Toe Bushing that came with the SPC kit....

Should I ask to see if the bushing kit will help bring the camber in? Or go back to Stock arms, return the SPC arms and get a different set that'll allow more adjustments?

Right now he has me at $350 in the hole....was quoted $90.... Which i am fighting to reduce

Cut your losses and go to another shop. Seriously.

ssidd 02-20-2017 08:17 PM

Yea, I'm about to eat the cost (hopefully talk em down a bit) and walk away at this point. Probably garage the car for the time being...

Thanks

If there's nothing wrong with the SPC parts (they're not for a different car or have a defect) there's no other parts that will make them work, they're either right or wrong.

Unless the alignment tech can give you a better description of what's going on all we can assume is that they are unable to perform the work you requested. If they're giving you a better description of what's going on then we might have something to go on, but I'm with everyone else, take the -3.x alignment and go to a different shop.

Make sure you get all your stock parts back (and potentially any parts they left in the SPC box, maybe they're not using the cam bolts and are being super stupid). It's kind of troubling that they're struggling this much with this, it's not a terribly complicated procedure, especially if you have the right tools like they should have.

There is the off chance that you have the wrong parts, if they're for a different vehicle that had longer control arms it would make perfect sense as to what's happening here, but for $350 you'd hope the shop could pull out a tape measure and tell you that before they give you the car back.

I wouldn't trust that shop further than I could throw it.

Do you have pics? -4 degrees of camber is pretty obviously differentiable from -2.5 to the naked eye.

Additionally I'd take a tape measure to the installed LCA compared to the stock LCA.

Lastly, yeah. This stuff isn't hard. Go to someone who looks at your problem and says "this isn't hard" and actually delivers your specs.

Pretty sure, i've made up my mind that i'm going to eat the cost and store the car for the month. I have too many higher priorities at the moment and am traveling almost every week this month so i can't find time to take it a specialty shop.

The parts are correct, ordered them from FT86SpeedFactory and when i was installing them, i had compared the stock to SPC and they had lined up correctly. Cam bolts and washers were installed at the hub with washers on the outside, then reuse the remaining hardware for the other connections. I had tested the adjustment when the car was on the lift and seemed to be as intended.

Didn't get a chance to get a pic, but definitely can tell its cambered, not crazy stanced (or whatever the term is) but it is noticeable. A lot more than lowered stock.

Speaking with the tech, it seems he's got the toe maxed out and is trying to pull the camber in. He kept trying to refer me to adjustable toe arms and that will help him bring the camber in. Nope, not buying it...

Thanks guys, never expected it to become such a headache....

I know people who have SPC arms on their dedicated track cars, are lowered over an inch, and didn't even need the SPC toe bushing because it was still within the OEM range of adjustment.

You're a little over an hour away from @Racecomp Engineering. I would trust them to either do the work on your car or refer you to an alignment shop who knows which end of the car goes forward.

Welp, got the car back this morning. Thanks for the advice. Gonna see if i can find time to take it to a more specialized shop.

Pictures of the Camber LR -3.7 , RR-3.6. Sorry for crappy pics, was in a rush. Parked her in the Garage for now, She desperately needs a wash tho

Hard to tell from the picture but that doesn't look like almost 4 deg of camber.

Can you take better pics level with the horizon? Take a pic of the spc cams

Lowering an inch should get you in the 2-2.5ish degree with the stock arms. The SPC arms have a ton of adjustment and should easily cover that range.

I have the same wheels:cheers:
