Soooo sweet!

But shouldnt the Elan be a FR?

zbirdman777 09-30-2010 08:39 PM

OMG! I would wreck if I saw one of those drive by me. Some things are too beautiful to look away from...

70NYD 09-30-2010 08:43 PM

i like them, but they look too much like Lamborghini design.. i mean its states that they will be competing against them.. so if thats true the prices might go up significantly. and to be honest, if the prices even closly match that of lambos and ferraries, i would rather (not that i have the money) buy a lambo for a little extra than a lotus that looks like a lambo for a little less.. just my oppinion
the cars are amazing but :)

Does not care because it's 2800lbs with a 450hp supercharged Toyota v6.

For me, Lotus > Lamborghini, unless we are talking about awd, flamboyant, batshit crazy hp, exotic hyper cars.

70NYD 09-30-2010 10:41 PM

just the exotic hypercar part..
for me lotus > everything, all im saying is that if they jack the prices up to compete with these other hypercars, and they go away from the barebones, barely streetlegal track cars that they are these days, to more creature comfort hyper cars which cost 3x the current exige cup 240, and that looks like a growth stunted murcielago, well then i might as well buy a proper murcielago, or better yet a atom (at least i can afford that, seing how i dont play lotto)
however if they keep their current prices and look like this, and perform as they used to (or better, thats what evolution is supposed to be) then they will still be the best thing out there. but again, thats my oppinion ;)

Prefers a lotus that sells lots of expensive cars as well as an elise and one or two other models at a reasonable price, than no lotus at all.

p.s. Lotus had the "lambo look" before or at the same time as lamborghini.

p.p.s You have no clue how expensive atoms are do you? I'd also never venture to drive one on a main road.

70NYD 10-01-2010 10:42 AM

Lol stupid phone.. That was supposed to say "at least I wish I can afford that" hence comparing it with a murcielago (i was talking about the v8 one abeit less expensive than a murcielago) ... And the bottom range isn't that much..
That's iPhone for ya :p
I would love one, u only live once, and I don't plan on being a vegetable ;)
I didn't know lambo copies lotus styling, sorry

Matador 10-01-2010 01:20 PM

^Didn't say that they copied, just saying that the current cars and the lotus concept and individual evolutions of similar styling.

Which is super awesome, but for the "Elan" name it should be FR... Maybe they just ran out of names starting with E, so they used elan again.

And lambos suck

"All of this begs the question, though: How do you update a modern classic like the Elise? Lotus' answer is currently being shown off at the Paris Motor Show. Here are the basics: 320 horsepower from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine procured from Toyota..."

Toyota. 2.0L Turbocharged. Sounds like an FT-86 Engine on steroids to me.

Most of the Lotus concepts also have the racetrack readout -- all borrowed from the FT-86 concept I'd suspect.

You never know they will release this for the turbo version (droools)

also did u see the 7 speed dual clutch in one of those lotus ( by Toyota)

Siriusly.Andrew 10-01-2010 07:06 PM

I noticed, indeed. I'm not overly thrilled by a 7 speed dual clutch auto-manual, but would be nice with paddle shifts, no doubt. I'm just curious to see if this 2.0L turns out to be the same motor slated for the FT-86, with the obvious Lotus adjustments.

The Dual clutch is of Lotus design. I believe it's the one they patented some time ago.

I'm dying to know what engine it is, but I'm almost certain it's not a boxer and thus will not be in the ft-86.
