Some FR-S "news" (pricing update)

Just talked to the Scion dealership manager at a large Scion/Toyota dealer in Toronto. A bit of "news" that might be of interest:

1. There is a production FR-S that is making the rounds and will be available for viewing at some point - he was not sure how much advance notice he would get on it, took my # to call.

2. There is a big meeting on April 21 at Scion HQ for dealers re the car.

3. Anticipated arrival in May for first cars.

They are taking deposits, and only anticipate getting about 5 cars in the first round. They will definitely have one for test driving - the manager said he will be getting a personal one.

He had no idea when CDN pricing will be announced but feels the markup is likely to be more like the tC's 8% than the iQ's 4% (he sounded pretty certain about that, FWIW).

UPDATE: Just had a call back from him with more news, and it looks like pricing WILL BE UNDER $27K, with official pricing to be released within a week.

I spoke to my scion dealer in toronto yesterday who told me they were expecting official price within a week or so.

I want this car!!!!

The only thing holding me back is the possibility of first year model issues :(

May consider the switch from BRZ to FR-S if the FR-S is only about an 8% markup and the BRZ is much higher. Will be interesting to see how it all pans out I guess.

26,500

Im calling it. The scion guy i talked to awhile back said this was the rumblings for the price and all indications points to this being a logical guesstimate.

Hoping for US parity though, cuz 25,000 would be much better. :)

I wouldn't let this hold you back:

1) Subaru and Toyota are two of the highest quality manufacturers
2) Warranty will cover you, and I know first Toyota service is really really good.
3) Mary parts are "out of bin"...the only thing that may be a concern is the new engine.

My best guess: Subie won't go with the 30% they have on the WRX, but it will still be worse than the FR-S markup level, probably around 15%. So assuming the US lower-end BRZ (Premium?) is $26k, that will put it at $29.9k before freight taxes etc. Versus say $26.7k for the FR-S. No-brainer choice.

And I'm hoping I trip over a few 10 lb gold bars next time I hit Loblaws for groceries...

If pricing is under 27k then they for sure have me sold (pending test drive)

Khyron686 03-23-2012 05:15 PM

Have heated mirrors and no red stitching for Canada models been confirmed? Any other changes (hoping for seat warmers :)

Arthur 03-23-2012 08:24 PM
