Big Fat Mega Road Trip!
 

Hey Guys,
I'm driving the 86 from Houston to Whistler, BC in a couple of weeks for some MTB downhilling, and I'd like some suggestions on what you feel are some must drives, and maybe some must ride MTB trails along the way. I've just started researching possibilities. In the past, I've ridden quite a bit in the 4 corners region (UT, CO, MN, AZ), so this trip I'll focus my excursions on locations further NW. The trip will be over 5K miles round trip, and I'll have more flexibility on the return trip. This is the 1st suggested route, but there are several which vary in widely in route, but have similar times/distance:

I live in vancouver, and the most i'd want to drive is down to Cali from Vancouver, BC

My advice: if you're an MTB rider then you simply must go to Moab, UT area. Eastern CO is the most boring place on Earth, avoid it like the plague. Also consider checking out the Grand Canyon in northern AZ just for fun.

I don't have any waypoints to contribute, but this looks like a great way to enjoy a new car! I hope you'll post lots of pictures from your journey - not just of the FRS but of the biking and scenery and such!

Like I said in the other thread if you are coming up to Vancouver let go for a drive and meet with the other local guys. Finally a Red car in the sea od Blue currently.

Cut over to 25 by going through the NE corner of New Mexico by going through Dumas and Dalhart in TX.

Also, consider taking a little extra time to go through the western peninsula of Washington and enjoy the Olympic National Park region, then take a ferry from Port Angeles over to Victoria (a beautiful city) and enjoy some of the beautiful roads on Vancouver Island (the big island that Victoria is on).

Also, this is absolutely the best way enjoy a new car. I wish I had the time to drive across the country, especially such a scenic and beautiful route (not including north Texas...)

Be sure to save some time to ride the north shore before and/or after you head to Whistler. Cypress, Fromme, and Seymour all offer awesome rides that differ from one another as well as from the trails up at Whistler. I recommend a day for each of those three, but if you were limited on time you could skip the one least suited to your riding style and/or could ride two on the same day (likely Fromme and Seymour.)

If you can get it along your route, Mount Zion and Monument Valley are must see's Also great canyon roads

be sure to have travelers insurance . the cost of medical if you get hurt isnt cheap.

and if you like big jumps and drops and are an experianced rider you must hit up dirt merchant, a line, and definatly ride the upper lift. Enjoy whistler, youll love it.

THIS. There are people that go to Whistler and completely miss Garbo. I'm more of a techy rider (A Line is simply a way for me to reach (forgive misremembered trail names... It's been a while since I've been up there) Hornet, Old School, the GLC drops etc. :) ) and even I really dig Freight Train and company.

Your right. Been to Moab 3 times. Grand Canyon? Might just have to check that out this trip.
