Innovate Motorsports SCG-1 Boost Control and AFR protection gauge... Now Available!

SCG-1: Solenoid Controller

The Innovate Motorsports SCG-1 is a revolutionary approach to boost control that integrates an advanced standalone boost controller with Innovate’s industry leading DirectDigital™ wideband air fuel ratio technology. When we decided to build a boost controller, we knew we had to offer more capabilities than other products available today, while still maintaining the user friendly functionality demanded by our customers. Instead of repackaging the same boost control technology that has been used for decades, we choose to pair our advanced O² sensor control technology with our all-new, proprietary solenoid control that provides superior boost control accuracy, response and safety. We also added a user programmable shift light and housed the entire package in a compact gauge body for ease of installation and use. As with all of our air/fuel ratio products, the SCG-1 utilizes the only 100% digital wideband air/fuel ratio technology to provide real time feedback to the SCG-1. This air/fuel information is displayed on an integrated OLED display along with manifold pressure and wastegate duty status. The air/fuel ratio information is also used to provide a user definable boost cut that enhances the safety margin over most competitors offerings that only rely on over boost threshold. The SCG-1 has a full-programmable analog output ideal for applications using standalone ECU’s, piggy-back ECU’s or external data loggers. The SCG-1 also has a digital input/output for integration with our other Modular Tuning System (MTS) devices. This same digital output can be used to record air/fuel ratio, solenoid duty cycle, engine speed and manifold pressure with our free LogWorks PC software to help you dial in a perfect boost curve.

No changing the target boost as RPM increases. :(

There is a more advanced (more expensive) boost controller in the pipeline that has features (some completely new to boost control) you would only find approaching the $1000 price point (like the excellent AMS1000). The gain function on this device increases boost a set percentage over your base duty cycle over duration. It is very simple and works quite well if you are experiencing boost taper with a less then optimal exhaust system or a lighter WG spring then would be ideal. The price point to feature set of the SCG-1 is actually pretty awesome.

I would just think it would be a simple feature to include since you have RPM as an input to the gauge. I am not looking to do it for boost taper. I am looking to reduce boost as RPM increases to maximize area under the curve in a power to weight limited racing class.

I like this. Does this mean Innovate is also developing a Turbo? :D

Negative Mike, but there are some other neat products in the pipeline... :D

That's awesome! Really good value for the price point

I probably would of picked this up over the AEM Failsafe

xwd 07-15-2014 08:14 PM

Yeah I have the failsafe now but I like the display on this more than the failsafe since it displays the values for both and not just colors... I had not planned on using the Ecutek boost control, I had planned on using my old Blitz DSBC but this would accomplish the same thing and it comes with a 4-bar MAP sensor.

The one thing the Failsafe has over this is the onboard logging but I've got a full Windows 8 tablet now and it's very compact and easy to log with without having to lug around a laptop.

There are a few ways to data log the 4 available logging channels (MAP, WG Duty, AFR, RPM) off of the SCG-1 without having a lap top on board.

Option 1:
http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/p...ront_small.jpg
PL-1 Pocket Logger; This is a compact SD card based data logger that is plug and play with most all of the Innovate devices. With this you would have one button recording of these as well as any other channels from other Innovate devices in your log chain.

Option 2:
http://www.ot-2.com/img/main-ot2.jpg
OT-2; If you have an IOS Apple device with WiFi, you can use the OT-2 with your SCG-1 via a PN:3812 serial patch cable. This would allow you to log from your SCG-1 and other Innnovate devices in your log chain wireless to your compatible Apple device. The LogWorks mobile App is a free download in the iTunes store.

I like it. I'll definitely pick one up just to consolidate gauges and eliminate some clutter.

That said... the failsafe isn't a failsafe unless it can cut fuel. Dropping to wastegate pressure doesn't work when the wastegate lines are blown off. Boost control and failsafe features as still done far better/easier with ecutek directly.

Regardless, it's a great looking piece.

Agreed. Only reason I went with the failsafe was for boost and afr in one gauge.

If you enable it in ECUTEK, you can use the SCG-1's integrated 0-5v analog output signal with your ECU, allowing you whatever AFR cut protections ECUTEK offers. I agree with the failsafe nomenclature, that is why we don't use it for this product. We also feel it is incorrect to use it for the other companies product as well for the very reason you stated. The SCG-1 does however have that added layer of protection that other non ECU integrated boost control options lack.

Yeah... of course you would use the 0-5v analog for the wideband input just the same as all of the existing Innovate sensors. I use one and it works spectacularly well. I recommend them over the (more complicated) AEM units all the time.
