FRS 4.8 LS swap

Started the swap on my 14 FRS in December. Been slow going up to this point, but its moving now.

Started with a bone stock 2014 FRS in December 2014, added Whiteline swaybar end links, coilovers with swift springs (7k front, 6k rear), megan racing toe links, spl lca's, fbm 3" full exhaust, 17X9 CE28N wheels, weight reduction (got down to 2646 with no back seats, batter moved to rear, and metal removed everywhere (brake backings, etc.). Added a Full Blown motorsports GTX 3076R turbo kit in January 2015 and never really liked the way the car performed. Always had issues with cam sensor and running really rough at 6800 rpm and up. Knew I wanted a v8 swap, so I went for it. Bought a 120K mile 04 4.8 and t56 from a 2002 Camaro. Have two 6765 billet precision turbos here with sw turbo headers. Wanted the 4.8 for the 7500 rpm potential. Currently, engine and transmission are in, waiting on wiring harness, and driveshaft will be made next week. Ordered a MRS conversion box and have it here. Also rewired the fuel pump and cut out the controller. Trying to do one thing everyday to get it all done.

Trying to figure out the cheapest best way to do the exhaust. Think I may have found a solution, but it is a big maybe. a 3" overpipe from an FRS will fit through the subfram holes, and almost lines up with gto headers with a little changes. Finding a RHD overpipe would do the same thing and make a cheap Y pipe.

Found a way around the brake lines being in the way of the exhaust on the drivers side. Removed the mount and directly bolted the brass splitter to the top.

No got the t56. Got the 4.8 from NH and immediately rebuilt it. Stock rods, pistons, arp main studs, new bearings, melling oil pump, zr1 cam, new rings gapped to 32 thousandths bottom 28 thousandths top, pac 1291 springs, ctvs head gaskets, ls2 waterpump, ls2 intake, ls2 throttle body

Will be adding boost as soon as it running and driving hence the ring gap. Most ls' gain from increased ring gap under boost or spray

Not sure about this. The OEM exhaust routes the same way on LHD and RHD. RHD has less clearance due to the steering column. Basically LHD/RHD overpipes are the same when fitted to a LHD car.

It should be awesome!

Well i guess that wont work. Just thinking since i have a 2.5 and a 3 inch overpipe left i can duplicate one to make it work just reverse the direction of the bend.

Got the fuel system done. Aeromotive 15 gal cell with internal pump 340lph pump, -8an hoses to the rail and crossover then to the fpr and -8 return to the tank.

Got the fenders back from Speedway machine. Closed up the vents that had started to rust. Just need to fill in with body filler and smooth. Vents and fuel filter in too. Was able to use the fuel filter inline off the supply hose with a -8 union from vibrant. Cooling system is 99% complete. Just need one more 1 1/4 piece of hose to the waterpump. Using the full blown radiator from when I was turbo. Anyone know what pinion yoke wausaiu used on the frs diff? Been looking everywhere and everything for the frs size is 1310. Was looking for a 4 bolt to 1350 conversion so I could use my gm driveshaft.

I could be wrong, but pretty sure you need switch your radiator lines around. Bottom Radiator Port goes to your thermostat housing.

kurty85 06-26-2017 06:14 PM

It should not matter which is connected to which. The water is going to follow a path and there will be suction from the radiator. I checked this several times on different car builds and the consensus is that it does not make a difference.

Man, you bought the wrong engine!
