Vortech Supercharging System Update - More boost, more POWER!
Recently there have been many discussions and speculations regarding the Vortech Supercharging Systems for the FT86, both in its non-tuned "Tuner Kit" form, and the soon to be released complete system. We wanted to take a moment to put forth the facts in an effort to quell the rumors and put an end to the innuendo and false statements.
We at Vortech, as most enthusiasts know, are very meticulous and thorough in the development of our supercharging systems. In keeping with our commitment to design and engineer the best, most reliable supercharging systems in the world, and taking into account the 12.5:1 compression ratio of the FA20 engine, we initially designed the FR-S/BRZ systems to deliver 5-6psi of boost and deliver a safe and exciting boosted experience for our customers that was CARB E.O. compliant. Following months of testing at our facility, along with a select number of our strategic tuning partners in the field, we have determined that an upgraded Vortech system set at 9psi on the FA20 engine can be equally as reliable and up to the standards you have come to expect from Vortech. Therefore, all Vortech systems for the FR-S/BRZ will now include the upgraded V-3 H67B compressor set at 9psi, with the capability of supporting 13+ psi for those interested in pushing the envelope outside of E.O. compliance. We have applied and are proceeding through the E.O. process as originally planned, at the 9psi H67B output level. We are confident this adaptation will deliver even more of the exceptional performance you want and expect from Vortech Superchargers. |
I guess this is the compressor Perrin has been using then..

Yes!!!! My long wait has paid off! :))

Are we talking a full compressor or a new pulley, cuz it sounds like the compressor... Also what about the original price tag, is it going to go up? And also what about those who already bought the kit, is vortech going to give them the new part and have them send back the old one, or are they hosed?

Great news guys. Thanks for continuing to support the vehicle.
I'll be getting with the crew, and we'll change out the three vehicles we have down here. Two of us already have the smaller pulley. |
if I'm correct all other FI kits running around 9psi are making 300whp.
I'm curious to see how this kit will compare knowing that 5 psi wasn't close to other FI kits. |

So the pulley size will remain the same?
Its great you all are contacting people who already got the kit, great customer service. |

Are there numbers anywhere for this system yet? |
Yes, would love to know the HP on the new kit!

Finally, this all makes sense. Thank you Brian.

I'm excited! Can't wait to see one of these pop up in MD.

The new numbers on our complete system are 294HP/210TQ @ 9psi (Flywheel HP/TQ). This is the setup we have already applied for, and are pursuing CARB legality with. Obviously tuners like Perrin and Visconti are both able to provide Tuner Kit packages with higher numbers for other supporting mods or higher boost or higher redline configurations. We have seen numbers eclipsing 300RWHP from them, but in-house we have not tried pushing the limits beyond the 9psi setup on an otherwise stock vehicle on 91 octane fuel.
