Broke own personal record with a 14.88@150km/hr (best time and speed). Car has an injen intake as the only power mod. Running on 18" wheels

Tire and tire size?

GramLight 57xtremes 8.5x18 front and 9.5x18 rears with 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 respectively

I'd be curious if the 255 rears and 18x8.5" wheels hurt or helped your time. I'm sure the extra tire helped your launch but the significantly higher rotational mass.

From an science viewpoint, it'd be fun to take your stock wheels out and do back to back runs to see if the bigger wheels/tires are an advantage or disadvantage.

The effect of extra wheel weight on straight line acceleration is not that much. I'd guess he is faster with the wider, stickier tires. Especially if he has stock tires on those stock wheels.

I thought you would want more sidewall when drag racing? The side wall gives more to lessen the tire breaking free? Granted, I am talking about slicks, but from all my drag racing days I don't remember the best times being cut with big rims/little sidewall.

That's hilarious. Minute long burnout on street tires for a 15 second run.

It makes you wonder how some of these magazines got their 14.6 times on stock tires, with a stock car.

Are you theorizing that if he put on 16" wheels (even less weight) and used a tire of the stock width (taller sidewall) but is a much stickier tire like a treadwear rating of sub-200 he could accomplish both a better launch and reduced rotational resistance.

Even worse, most street tires grip worse after a burnout. Best launch would be skipping the water box and just giving them a quick spin to throw any loose debris off them. You should only do a burnout with proper drag radials or slicks.

Any good street tire will benefit from a small amount of heat. (Star Spec, RS3, Kumho XS, RT-615K are the ones I have experience with) Although, some are easier to overheat than others.

I have tried many techniques with these Nitto 555, and for it to hook at 6k RPM launch, it must be heated really well. And the guys wanted an extra few seconds for the cameras :party0030::coolpics:
