86CUP is the premier independently organized FRS/BRZ Time Trial series in North America. Utilizing a ruleset that is specific to the platforms, the 86CUP aims to provide a friendly, safe environment in which 86 enthusiasts can hone their driving skills. Come join us at our events, get a ride, and experience the true capabilities of our platform in its natural environment!

With the success of previous years and a growing population, we could not help but expand and welcome new track organizers as well new supporters to 86Cup. Cusco-Winmax, GT-Radial, and CounterSpace Garage have been phenomenal to our growing needs and will continue to support the 86Cup for 2016. New for 2016 is Elite Performance, Burlingame. They have been a silent partner for a while now supporting our stock and modified FRS/BRZs with parts, installs, ECU tuning, and any other track-prep our cars need. Last but not least is 86drive . Norcal's group of enthusiasts that continues to grow from canyon carving to track driving. A few of Norcal 86Cups' regularly attendance still maintain their canyon carving prowess while letting it all hang out at an 86Cup event.

2016 also brings us two new track organizers hosting our 86Cup events! NCRC has been our father on the track and 2016 will mark our 3rd-season relationship with NCRC. Our newest addition to hosting 86Cup track days is SpeedSF . An established group, SpeedSF has some of Norcal's most experienced drivers utilizing a wide variety of performance vehicles. The next and upcoming 2016 86Cup track hosts is Exclusive Trackdays . They offer private trackdays with limited crowds and more track time.

GT Radial USA contingency program for 2016 86Cup:

I have the decals! @Elite Performance has the tires in different sizes (mount/balance while you wait). Next time I go to Elite, I'll bring the decals.

Not a minute goes by where I don't have the same concern. I think that's what keeps me at my limits.

The amount of risk you take is personal, there's no reason you can't go out there and cruise around at 8/10ths of the car's capabililties, never hear the tires squeal once, never get on ABS and have a good time. A good instructor riding shotgun will talk you through everything and build you up, not push you past what you're capable of and help you leave with a good feeling in your gut.

HPDE's are generally not competitions and if I remember correctly NCRC won't even let you compete without approval via an instructor riding along and assessing your skills before they'll let you register for the higher classes (that might have changed or is not strictly enforced).

Ask around, find a group that fits your schedule with a reputation for good instruction, maybe go with a buddy. And if you go to watch, try to find a good seat right next to a fast driver just before he heads out on track if you know what I mean ;)

Most people are friendly and willing to give rides.

@MyRx

Pretty stoked to see Speed SF will be hosting some events, I know Elite is pretty close with those guys.

Since Speed SF runs their own little time attack group for one session, will they be allowing 86Cup participants in as well? (might be neat to have less traffic for some flying laps)

I know with Exclusive Track Days the 86 Cup participants will be getting their own run group all day, so that will be an event not to miss!

I'm working out the details with SpeedSF. They have a different running convention than what we are used to. It will be fun with SpeedSF.

Yes, Exclusive Track Days should be an exclusive one. One that could entice Socal 86Cup to join us...on the new side of Thunderhill.

Track-day insurance is available for people who are just getting started ... and some standard auto insurance companies (State Farm comes to mind as one) do in fact still cover you in an accident if you are participating in a driver-education event (HPDE). Just to give you some more peace-of-mind... although once you start competing that may not be covered. But if you are new to the sport and want to give it a try, it's something to look into.

Nonetheless, definitely come out and check out the action trackside!

Sweet!

A joint Socal/Norcal 86 Cup at Thunderhill West would be epic. That track was built for these cars.

DarkPhoenix 02-12-2016 03:04 PM

Heh the new side of Thunderhill still makes me twitchy, but admittedly, the last time I was on it was in a NASA safety truck and I was responding to a grass fire. Let me tell you, those trucks do NOT turn well and that track was narrow as hell through some of them. :D

I may consider Sonoma though since I'm literally right down the road. Besides, my husband's Focus has been out there and earned its sticker so it's my turn in the FR-S. (For the record, turn 2 at Sonoma in a 2012 Focus SE is a frightening experience because it almost baaaarely makes it up that incline.)
