Which budget tire would you pick?
I found these ultra high performance summer tires (California mono-season) from various manufacturers while being available to me for <$90/tire.
Which of these would you pick for your stock daily with some spirited driving and why? • Falken Azenis FK510 • Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 • General G-MAX RS Somethings I found during my time own .. the Hankooks are 19 lb, Falkens 20 lbs, Generals 22 lbs (TireRack). Per tyrereviews.co.uk the Hankooks are a bit softer/comfortable than the Falkens, but Falkens give mroe performance. Too bad tyrereviews do not have any "data" on the Generals. ---- I'm currently leaning towards the Falken's because they appear to be reported as the more aggressive tire over Hankook and stiffer. Tire Rack also found them to have some of the better wet grip as well as best lap times in their mini test. Too bad the tread pattern isn't aesthetically pleasing. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=235 |
From looking at the review the only thing that let the Falken down was real world handling, which is weird because they perform better than most in the wet, and near as good as, or better than all the others everywhere else.
For road/daily handling duties I would of rated them higher. Strange |

I think you’re over analysing a bit. It’s not like you’re after lap times and it’s an irreversible choice. Go with the Falkens. Have fun, if you don’t like em move onto another brand next time :) |
I love the Hankooks, and my real world testing with the FK510s was negative (it was 7 years ago, so surely they've gotten better). I've never used the General tire, so I can't say anything about it.

I have the Hankooks, they're great but a bit noisy.
Next time I want to try the Firestone Indy 500. |
Had the Hankooks V12's once, I liked them for the price, had good dry/wet grip and wear was reasonable. I wouldn't mind them again buuuut if you can swing the couple extra bucks, the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 (aka Bridgestone Potenza RE003) is going to be one of the best bang for your buck options IMO.

You find the RE003 better than the V12? I've been hesitant to try it since the Firestone is classed as an Ultra high performance and the Hankook is a Max performance. |
I'm running Hankook RS4 at the moment, for what I use them for they are a good tyre for the price.

Indy 500's based on reviews
|
Why not try Federal? They seem to be really popular and in that price range.

I did have the V12 on my FR-S after the Primacy's. Definitely an upgrade over stock. But I wore them down quickly and switched to the S1 Noble. I don't mind getting them again if there is a good deal. But with the Firestone as an option now then that's a tough call. I wouldn't be hesitant though, you'll get your money's worth. |
Riken Raptor ZR, 71$ each
I have 0 complaints about them |
