DCW Firestorm FRS
First of all - let me give you a short story. Im located in Lithuania - Europe. For past 7 years was working on STi / ST205 Celicas and other Japanese sport cars. Had my own AE86 project - that i gave up to get the GT86. After asking my local dealer about BRZ / GT86, got the answer that wasnt the one i expected - they will be released in my country round 6 month later then FRS was in USA... So :) I bought FRS in USA :) Asked my friend to put a deposit on it in March - and got the car in Chicago Jun 20 :) Got the Title going - and off it was in a container - taking trip around half of the globe - to the other side of the pond :)
Got the car last week, so still was enjoing it as it is :) Here are few pics: The day when it was delivered to Continental Toyota: http://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...87184425_n.jpg And here it is in a Port parking lot - waiting to get loaded. At the same time - i bought Sparco Assetto Gara 18x8 with some Dunlop tires, and Eibach springs for it :) Wheels where on the car with the stock ones loaded inside. http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...37075518_n.jpg Unloaded - and driving it back home :) Was a superb day - waitied for it to come for almost 2.5 month! And finally got it :) Lithuanian dealers all got demo cars right now - but if i would go and order one - it would take another 2-3 months to get it :) So i was super happy that i will be (might be :D) first one to get the car registered as a person in LT :D http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...28896313_n.jpg Here it is near my other 'toy' :D Sti TypeR. Not so small at all :) Actually side by side - they are almost the same size :) http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...52175760_n.jpg Ok - so got it home Thursday - Friday took it for a few spins round home town - but driving it with IL license plates around - got local cops intrested :D I dont want to mess around - so will have to wait till i get Title from US - cuz Fedex managed to lose the envelope with title - and now im waiting for a dublicate... Soooo - as i cant drive it fully yet - time to take it apart :D Before all the mod's - lets get one good picture of how it looks - and later on there will be some progress pics ;) http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...41342818_n.jpg Today from early morning - started works :) As i do work on all different client cars daily - its a bit hard to find motivation to get stuff going with my own cars (i have few :D) But FRS was another story :D http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...36499209_n.jpg Stock springs removed - Eibachs installed. Heres a quick comaprison: http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...87741968_n.jpg http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...75881787_n.jpg After springs install - next step was to get all the nasty chrome from headlights out :D Started with corner lights. As i wanted them to not be totaly black inside - i used airbrush + over reduced black paint to get the black chrome look :) In pics its hard to see - but they are not matt at all, chrome is still see throu the black :) http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...85238584_n.jpg Headlights where next. As i wanted to leave some small details stil in chrome - so i masked all the places - and sprayed some matt black along with some bumper texture paint. Here how they look after few coats of paint: http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...14940613_n.jpg And i remebered - that if i want to get this FRS legal here - i need to add parking lights inside headlights - cuz we have a law - that parking lights cant be in the same housing as other lights (in this case - turn lights in US..) Sooo.... Got the idea roling - and i did a little round strip of plexi glass + 2 white leds on both ends. Sanded plexi strip with 800 grit to get it looking a bit matt - and that it would light up. Heres the result: http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...02238379_n.jpg Put the light back together - and heres comparison to the stock one: http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...19431669_n.jpg Finished other side - and put everything back together. Looks 10x better then stock :) http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...73471824_n.jpg http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...93391618_n.jpg As its still light here - will wait till it gets a bit darker - and will take picture with the leds light up :) And here how it sits after Eibach springs :) Was pretty inpresed of the ride with them - cuz honestly it seems like they are a bit softer then Stock springs! If not - then equal to the stock ones :) Cuz ride aint got any more hard... http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...64315788_n.jpg All the emblems have been changed the same day to the Toyota ones :) And i did Black background for the front emblem to get the same theme going as all the grills / headlights and etc :) Hmmm - whats next? Build a bodykit for it. Already agreed with one local comapny who has CNC / 5axis machines - so bodykit / molds should be CNC'ned from foam straight ahead after initial scan of the car / renderings that we will make ;) So stay tuned for more info pretty soon :) |
The car looks great. Lots of mods quickly. :)

I am impressed. That is one good looking car. The work you did on the headlights, left me in awe. Excellent work, and interesting touches on attention to detail. I like the whole package!

Thanks for the coments! :) Here are how the parking lights look in the dark:

Oh, wow! Sorry for being more interested in the Z car, but those are very rare in Europe too, no? We got way more here in the United States than anyone else did. You're a lucky man!

Very nice!!! I wish I could afford to do that to my 240Z
|
I really like the blacked out headlights & bumper lights, looks really good.
Your Datsun is absolutely gorgeous:thumbsup: |
Your mods came out great. The dark headlights will be a must.

Today i finally found some time to install Perrin pulley :) And to be honest - was a bit sceptial about all the 'gains' it adds...
http://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...48661382_n.jpg http://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...43907440_n.jpg Install was quite straight forward - and once done - it was WOW... Really - WOW. Never thought that it would free up this engine so much - response from the pulley was sooo much better!! Damn - its such a nice / cheap mod and gives a lot bigger smile now driving my FRS :) Next step - had some Bride Gias seats that i bought long before car came in - they are in reupholstery shop now :) Doing them in black alcantara + red stiches. Should be able to install them later maybe next week :) Also - sourced brakes from 03' STi - so these should go in pretty soon too :) |
Did my Tails today also. Done them in transparent black - so they look more like dark bronze / chrome now:
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...28415318_n.jpg http://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...34283320_n.jpg Will be doing rear lights / fog tomorow maybe :) And need to get this damn thing registered finally... |
I'm really liking the war this car is going, nice job
