Adding Keys, including SmartKey

I know there have been many questions without resolution on how to add additional keys to the 86 platform without a factory scan tool. Even those with the TechStream app have found difficulty when trying to program a new SmartKey (push button start) fob.

I have a solution that allows anyone to add a key to just about any make/model vehicle including Subaru, Toyota & Scion. For the 86 models it covers all 2013-2024 models with the SmartKey, or with the standard key.
Note: This only works to ADD a key, you must have at least 1 working key or fob. This is not a solution when all keys are lost.

It is the Otofix D1 made by Autel.

There are several models that supposedly all offer the key programming ability; D1 Lite, D1, D1 Pro & D1 Max, that range in price from from $320 to $1090. I purchased the D1 ($549 after Amazon coupon) and it was successful.

You may ask yourself why spend that kind of money just to program a key. Well it does a ton more than just key programming, it does about 95% of what the factory scan tool does.
  • Read/Erase Codes
  • Bi-directional control, allowing you to perform powerful active tests on car subsystems. This means that you can check the working status and functionality of open & close solenoids, energize injectors, turn cooling fan on & off, and more
  • ECU Coding
  • 150+ car brands from 1996-2024, expandable with updates
  • SRS Diagnostic and programming
  • Steering Angle Sensor Programming
  • Customizeable settings (Door locks, AC, Approach lighting, etc)
  • 40+ hot services, including Oil Reset, EPB, TPMS, E.GR, G.PF, D.PF, SAS Calibration, TPMS, ABS Bleeding, Injector Coding, Gearbox Match, Suspension, Crankshaft Relearn, Power Balance, etc.
  • and much, much more

The D1 series tablets feature an Android 9.0 OS, 5G & 2.4 GHz Dual WiFi, 5800mAh battery, 2G+64GB & Bluetooth 5.0 +USB connect. With a ton of other features. If you like to do your own service and diagnostic, this is the best Diagnostic scanner I've personally owned. And is as capable as much more expensive units I've seen.

I am not associated with Otofix, Autel or Amazon in any way. Just wanted to share my impressions of this great tool.

Here is a video I made last night after the tool arrived and I programmed the key in less than 10 minutes. Sorry for the odd angles, filmed w/my phone.

I wonder how this compares to the Autel MK808S-TS that I picked up to do TPMS and ABS functions.

To be quite honest, it's likely the same interface, but on an Android 11 tablet. I think the Autel units have more durable cases, shock-resistance to make them more catered to the professional mechanic. Pretty sure that Otofix is their new line for home enthusiasts.

I have an older Autel scanner, that does live data and code reading but no programming, and the Autel TS508 TPMS tool, both work great.
