Manuals are better in traffic once you learn how to drive them.

Here we go again, lol.

Also, news like this doesn’t surprise me. Everyone acts like Toyota wasn’t reading the market when they chose auto-only for the new Supra. Autos sell these days.

Manuals are only worse if you're part of the crowd that keeps the clutch depressed at all times. For those who put the car in neutral when coming to a stop, it's no worse than an automatic.

I saw this news too and was surprised. I thought I read an article a year or two ago that said the 86 was one of the rare models with a majority of manual buyers. Either I’m remembering that wrong or today’s numbers no longer reflect that.

I always wonder if manuals are a dying breed, why not just make a stick special order. Provide one manual on lots to show people the car still comes in a stick, but has to be special ordered because it doesn't sell as well as an automatic.

But I suppose if people went to a dealership to buy a car...they want a car that day and don't want to wait several months potentially to get their stick shift configured car.

That and you will always get a better deal on a car on the lot than something special ordered. They want to move inventory and might give you incentives. If a stick sits around awhile since no one can drive it, it means better deals for us! I test drove a Crosstrek with a stick once and the salesman was salivating at the chance to unload it.

It's because automatics are better. There's absolutely no use for a clutch in a modern car. The only people who drive manuals are overcompensating for something.

why? 05-16-2019 12:58 PM

am I the only one who the quote feature is not working for? Odd.

Anyways, I've bought only manuals since I bought one not knowing how to drive it a few decades ago. There have been many times I wish I had an auto. Rush hour traffic in New York City or Washington DC comes to mind.

I think at best the take rate on the twins was 50/50. The people actually ordering the cars have been mostly manual, but that shouldn't surprise.

And just because it needs to be repeated: the auto on the twins is awesome.

hey it is working now. I cannot believe people actually drive like this. Talk about imbecilic. Right up there with the morons that think the clutch pedal has to hit the floor every time you try and switch gears. People always remind me you can never ever find the bounds of human stupidity.
