FT86SF's Performance Package Brembo Info Thread
 

We've been getting a lot of inquiries lately pertaining to the Performance Package brakes on MY17 cars. Guys looking for new rotors, Pad compounds, and wheel clearance mostly. Well, we finally found some time and brought in a caliper in-house to get tested on our own 86. So, we wanted to share the info we found today and hopefully build on that a bit with more info or info that everyone else is finding as well.

First thing we found out is standard STI pad compounds drop right into the caliper. The backing plate and shape are identical. Along with thickness, these slide in perfectly against the 326x30 DBA rotor we tested.

Second is we do have some aftermarket rotor options from DBA, as these are dual drilled and for STI application. The 5000 series rotor we tested is 326x30 and dual drilled for 5x100 and 5x114 application, making these a nice upgrade for anyone looking for replacement rotors on a PP equipped vehicle. That also means DBA's other offerings that are dual pattern drilled will work as well. The T3 4000 series and T2 Street series will also be direct replacements as their STI applications are also dual drilled, signified by the "-10" on the end of their PN.



Third is wheel fitments. These will continued to be tested, but we do have a round of wheels that we have fitted to ensure clearance on these calipers. Only photos of the 17" 57CR, but tested wheels that clear are listed below.

Wow that is some extremely tight clearance, no better than the stock PP wheels, imo.

Photo angle makes it look closer that it is, honestly. We are looking at about 2.5mm of clearance at the closest point of the wheel to the caliper. Which is about the minimum you want for thermal expansion.

All wheels tested have this or more clearance.

Would be better to see some brake template, so that wheel fitment can be DIY for whatever wheels one has. Also, are there any compatible blank rotor choices too? Imho blank, or at least just slotted might be a bit more reliable.
As for brake kit itself, what do you think of maybe assembling all the changed parts in kit and selling it for ones, that may want to retrofit it on older twins?

Regarding fitment, imho worth checking clearance with older stock wheels, as most common ones, and eg. tell, how thick spacers they may need to fit. Pitty, that given limited clearance on 17", most probably fitment with different 16" wheels will be impossible feat.

Great info been trying to work out brake options. BTW Enkei RS05RRS 18x8.5 +42 do not clear.

What about ss brake lines?

Unrelated but what alignment are you running with that wheel and suspension setup? I want to grab those wheels from ft86speedfactory but I thought they would rub on stock struts.

It is my son's car but I can speak to this question. He was able to get -.8 front camber with the 245/40R17 Pirelli P Zero AS + tires, whiteline camber bolts & RCE Yellow springs. Anymore camber and it could rub the strut tower. I think it is largerly depend on the tire brand as well. For example the Michelin Sport AS 3+ is wider than the Pirelli and may have issues. If you wanted to be safe you can go with a 235/40R17 tire or use a spacer up front.

Did you happen to measure the piston sizes?

For at least the front rotors, I believe that early 2000's rotors (like the 2004 STI with 5x100 pattern) with 326x30 dimensions should fit. The blanks are pretty cheap, so I may just pick one up to check soon.

I was hoping this thread would have more information for rotor size, especially the rears. Does anyone know any rotors that'll fit the rear?
I'd just like another blank rotor option other than OEM or a drilled/slotted rotor.

If the front rotors are the same as the sti I would wager the rears are too. 316x20, It needs to be an 08-17 sti rotor drilled to 5x100 (kns brakes I know has them), the earlier ones like from 04 do not work. And not because of the parking brake, they are all 190mm, it's the offset from the rotor to the hat that is different between older (strut rear suspension) and newer cars (multi-link).

So ft86speedfactory, where were you able to get hands on the PP calipers? I would be greatly interested if we can convert nonPP cars to these
