Anyone can recommend a good 16 inch wheel?
I use my BRZ for DD. Some of the roads I travel daily have bad pavement. So I am looking for a bit more ride comfort and possibly lighter weight. Probably first time visit this section of the forum, so excuse me if I missed anything.
Ideally, I can just put the wheels on and get 215 60 R16 tires and go. But if there are any other ideas, please let me know. Thanks! |
215/50R16 is going to be a lot closer to stock, 60 aspect ratio will be tall.
There's a handful of 16s on the wheel fitment charts. Sticky at the top of this section. 215/50 is slightly shorter than stock, 225/50 or 205/55 are slightly taller. |
Here's a good read for you
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27023 What is your budget? I run 225/50 R16 on street (Looks) and 205/55 R16 on track. The 205/55 R16 is perfect IMO. |
The old WRX wheels were 16's and fit great. You can usually find them very affordably. They are a bit narrow at 7" for 225's but will be perfect with 205's.

If you wanna go rare OEM look, go with these Subaru wheels. It's not easy to find, but pretty nice looking.

I run a 16" Motegi MR116 for my winter tires. They've been through hell and are still in perfect shape. I run a 205/55r16 on them

Man, that is long thread! Thanks a lot though. |
I think the best choice is to get some old WRX wheels. Polish them up a bit and paint them bronze or gold. Let me check out my local craigslist. Ebay is too expensive.

Meh, it's not that bad. I think I've been through it 3 times! |
i have 205/55 on 16" Sparco's, which you can get from tirerack for about $100 a wheel.
The old school gold RS wheels are the pinnacle, but good luck finding them. Pretty much every old Subaru 16" wheel will fit, and if you want to switch brakes to the WRX 4 pots every Subaru wheel in reasonably recent vintage will fit. |
Tons of lightweight (relative to the OEM 20+ pound 17" wheels) aftermarket 16x7 wheels from places like TireRack, where they also make sure the offset isn't too far off from OEM. The base '86 in the rest of the world uses 205/55 R16, so it's not like that size tire isn't meant for the car... I use 205/55 in the winter, and 225/50 in the summer...both work wonderfully.

Those old WRX wheels have offset like 53 or 55. What should I do to deal with the difference? The OEM offset is 48, right?

Can u get rpf1 in the size ur looking for? That's pretty much the gold standard for light and strong wheels for small to mid wheels.
