Removing the leftover adhesive from the FR-S lid spoiler
 

Okay, guys. So I decided to pull the spoiler off my trunk as the adhesive at the other edges had begun to fail and water and dirt was getting trapped underneath. Getting it off wasn't too difficult, a little prying but in the 100+ heat the glue was already soft.

Much to my surprise as I was getting it all the way off, the adhesive is a thick rubber like substance, when I was expecting 3m adhesive.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to get the rest of this off? It doesn't really tear very well, it's like literal rubber. Ideally I'd like to get it all off, clean it up, and reattach the spoiler. Wipe it with goo gone and let it sit for a bit and it should peel off easily. Thats what i used when i had to re install my sti side skirt. Hope that helps!

Goo Gone. Apply, let sit for 10-15 minutes. Use rolling motion to “roll” the adhesive off the surface. You’ll be surprised at how easily it’ll be coming off. But really let the Goo Gone soak in first.

Goo gone works, but if you don't have any, I'd suggest using 99% pure rubbing alcohol. It is safe to use on paint.

If the above doesn't do the trick, try this.. I think it'll shift whatever is left..

I alternate between using my finger nails and a plastic razor blade, sometimes coating the area with window cleaner as a lubricant for the blade. Still usually scratches, but then i detail and fix the scratches

I would hit it with goo gone to loosen it up. Wipe, then I'd take a blow dryer to heat up the adhesive underneath and it should peel right off.

Just be careful about heating up the area evenly and not hold it in one spot for too long.

So I was just curious (and didn't want to start a new thread for nothing). There doesn't seem to be any options out there where the 86/BRZ doesn't come with the rear spoiler installed. I'm not really into the rear spoiler look, and I'll never use any of the downforce to my advantage as the car will always be street driven...but I certainly don't want to be plugging any holes.

I've seen countless pictures of people "deleting" their rear spoiler, and they expose the OEM-looking trunk holes, which leads me to believe that it's not a dealer-installed accessory. Do all 86/BRZs come from the factory with spoilers? Did any of them leave the factory with bare trunk lids (no holes)?

If not, I'd probably settle with the smallest lip possible to cover up the trunk holes.

Another reason I got the '13 FR-S. Could buy one without the spoiler. I prefer that look too.

Peanut butter and heat is another way to deal with adhesive and stickers.

They're not standard on base cars. Mine did not come with one, but I ended up getting them to install it.

oh! so did you have to special order it? Here, there are "no" packages, options to delete it. I wonder if Subaru offers the same flexibility since I'm looking for towards the Subaru BRZ than the Toyota 86.

Up until 2017 the BRZ Limited (just BRZ in Canada) did not have the spoiler. The Sport Tech did though. Now they all have it and you can not delete it from the package.
The base 86 still does not have one so you could always try and swap trunk lids with somebody. Unless it is WRB of course.

The '13-16 Premium BRZs did not come with a spoiler. A lot of people with Limited trim levels traded for Premium trunk lids to get a trunk without holes.

It was a checkbox item available, $500CAD or so installed.

As Tcoat Mentoned there isn't much you can do on the new BRZs, except offer to swap trunks with somebody looking for a spoiler.
