Them Paddle shifters?
:bonk: Lol well I have the automatic version of the FRS, because where I live at there are a lot of stops and I've driven a manual and I got lazy sadly :/. I want to change the stock steering wheel with a NRG quick release and a MOMO and I'm wondering can I remove the paddle shifters all together and use the center console to change gears instead? :iono: :thanks:

keep your stock wheel and your stock shifters and more importantly your stock airbag

Ohhh alright thanks but I'm wondering if it's doable? I think it is just by disconnecting the wires, but I just wanted a 2nd opinion :)

Anything is "doable" if you have enough money. Hell, we can make that mutha fly! However, you need to think about what is a good idea first. Good luck.

Why not just disconnect the paddle shifters and find out? Looking at the FSM, it appears that they attach to the rear of the steering wheel with four screws and a single electrical connector that feeds both paddles. Seems like you could just take your steering column apart to the point that you can get to that connector, disconnect it, and then see if you can shift with the shift knob with the paddles disabled.
Just remember to take the proper precautions for the airbag before working on the steering column. You really don't want that thing blowing in your face while you're working on it. |
Is a quick release really needed? Doesn't really sound like a priority for an automatic. Are you just trying to hide that face you don't have a 6 speed?

Paddle shifters are just CANBUS switches. Should be able to remove them with no effect. On other Toyota platforms that don't have shifters, some have added them (it was a semi-popular thing to do on the 07+ Tundra, for example).
