Scion IM Steering Wheel

Does anyone know if it's possible to install the Scion iM steering wheel on the FR-S? It looks like it's the same size and it has radio controls on the wheel which is something I've sorely missed in my FR-S.

Do you have short arms? Can't reach the head-unit?

It's always easy to see if round objects are the same size from random pictures on the internet.

You bought the wrong car if your looking for steering wheel controls.

You came to the wrong neighborhood...

No the steering wheels are not compatible. The splines are different and the clock spring will not fit. The stock column cover will also not fit. I only have one hand so its kind of hard to drive manual and mess with the radio. I have also been looking at steering wheel control options.

Even if it fit, how are the buttons going to work if there is no harness connections for them in the steering column to connect to...you'll have to custom splice in a harness.

Much easier to use an iPod or other device with a custom playlist connected to the line in...are people so 'ADD' now they have to constantly switch stations? It certainly seems that way...

And upgrading to a different steering wheel for the FR-S would usually be something along this path:

...because the factory wheel is still TOO big in diameter for a driving focused sports car.

Here's my BRZ with Steering Wheel controls. Guarantee there isn't another BRZ or FRS around like it :)

Interested in seeing a video of the functions. Did you install it yourself or have a shop do it ?

i did it myself. It was quite a process to make it work. Involved cutting two steering colums apart and merging the two back together. Also required some lathe work. The splines on the STI wheel are slightly smaller in diameter and have a slightly different spline count than the BRZ stuff.

My car is in the middle of an engine swap at the moment. As soon as I get it functional again, I will be happy to post a video of all the functions working however I am not sure that the cruise will work as i'm using a GM E38 ECU.

Very interesting and quite the achievement. How many hours did it take you?

Did you drive the car with this wheel at anytime ?
