Hill Start Assist?

Hey y'all,

Anyone like the HAC on the 2017's? It's a standard feature on the 86 now I guess.

My dealer said there's supposed to be one...When I test drove it, it still rolled back...

If I recall correctly from reading the past various threads, the feature is disabled by default. Gotta push some buttons or something?

Don't quote me on that though..

Hillstart assist is also off by default. To turn it on:
- Park car in a flat location
- stop the engine
- start the engine and check that the ABS warning light and slip indicator are off
- Press and hold the "Traction-off" button (leftmost button that looks like car with skidmark and the word "off" at the bottom) for 30 seconds. Both VSC and Traction Control off indicator should illuminate and then turn off.
- Within 5 seconds after the indicator lights turn off, release the "Traction-off" button, then press the switch again within 2 seconds of releasing it.
- The hill start assist ON indicator will illuminate and then turn off.
- Turn the engine off, then restart the engine
- If done correctly the hill start assist ON indicator should now be illuminated.
- This is good for those just learning to drive Manual Transmission however I would suggest learning to start on the hill with the hand-brake. You'll appreciate having this skill later at the stop light "race me" scenario :)

That is hilarious but honestly Toyota thank you for leaving it off as standard. If only we could have the same capability with VSC

My Dad has an 08 Mini Cooper and it's hill holder (enabled by default- in fact I don't think you can turn it off at all) is by far and away one of my favourite features.

Please tell me that in the 86 at least once it's enabled it persists through key cycles, otherwise I'd wonder why they added it at all. Would have loved to have had that particular feature on my '16, but still no regrets.

I think that is a totally unnecessary feature.

If you cannot get started on a hill with a car with a MT, you need more practice or you should have gotten a car with an automatic transmission.

Came to the '16 BRZ from a MINI that had the hill hold feature. I don't miss it one bit.
