Manual Transmission Limits?

Do we know what amount of tq this transmission can handle? Any shops or vendors have a difinitive answer for this?

Also if we want to go passed said limit how would we make the tranny handle the power? Or would you have to do a swap?

Haven t heard issues with many manuals holding power, its more to do with the clutch and flywheel, more say, the clutch which i would assume, probably anything above 220whp maybe less should go up a stage. I could be wrong though, but i think this is a auto problem.

OVER 9000!!!!!!!

Okay, probably
T not. But until someone actually breaks one, and admits it, we will never know. I think the turbo guys are pretty far up there with the brz-400 kit.

the clutch will hold up to about 300whp or so. Go look at the Accelerated Performance thread and see. Don was making over that and it went out. But thats with several hundred dyno pulls and street pulls. If you take it easy the clutch and trans will hold the power people are making with a few fun drives.

Why are you mentioning power when it is a torque issue?

Tansey86 01-07-2013 10:02 PM

and does anyone know the name of the manual transmission? thanks

I don't know the limits myself.. torque capacity of course. What I do know is that back in the day when I was more involved with the muscle car crowd, cryogenic treatment of the transmission internals was a good way to strengthen it.

A quick google search turned up the following:

excusen me, i meant torque.

If you are looking for information about what the transmission will hold, I'd check into what people have done with the S15 Silvia, RS200 Altezza, and RX8, since it's a very similar design to those.

any update in this one chaps?

kombatlion 05-14-2014 01:44 PM

I guess is unbrakable!!!

AVodka14 05-14-2014 02:06 PM

I just read a tidbit about the Aisin AZ6. It was speculated that it would not be strong enough to handle the likes of a TC or SC. Yet we have seen people producing good numbers without issues on FI. It appears some people's engines are going before tranny. Do we know this the exact tranny in our car? Or is it modified for the Toyobaru platform?
