Subaru at Isle of Man TT

Anyone else following this?

British Rally Champion Mark Higgins breaks the road car record for Isle of Man TT with a slightly modified Subaru WRX STI (Sedan) at 19 minutes 56.67 seconds at an average speed of 113mph (~181kph).

The previous record was set in 1990 with rally driver Tony Pond in a Rover 827 Vitesse at 22 minutes 9.01 seconds

The Overall Lap Record is held by Rider John McGuinness with a 2009 Honda CBR1000RR at 17 minutes 12.30 seconds (131mph average)

He has one more run scheduled tomorrow. I wish him the best of luck. Check out the amazing recovery in the R&T video, imagine being that passenger!

I'd **** my pants if I were the co-driver.
And to those last two videos...Those are what you call a REAL drive by videos!!

I... love... that... sound.

Wonder how fast he was going when he got off balance. I've done that once and it scared the shit of out me.

Infernal 06-10-2011 09:34 AM

he was doing 150 MPH apparently lol

Where's the video?

So is this event open to any car or is this something that Subaru sponsors? Cause I could see other stock cars beat the STI time.

I embedded it, so if it doesn't work for some reason...

And yes he was doing ~150mph. That corner I believe has a recommended speed of 20mph when the TT is over. I could be mistaken however...

it's mostly a motorbike event - the island is pretty famous in motorcycle racing, so cars don't bother. there has been a top gear episode there though, with an aston, a porsche and bmw 6 series if i remember correctly

Jeremy also reviewed the BMW M3 CSL (E46) on the Isle of Man.

Ok thanks. So this is just something that Subaru has kinda done on their own I guess.
