THIS THREAD IS FOR OWNER EXPERIENCES AND QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCES WITH THIS KIT.

Thank you @digital_assassin for starting this thread. He no longer owns his 86 so I will periodically update this thread instead

Please post once you've ordered and I'll keep it updated with people that have ordered and will ultimately have the kit on the car. I ask that we all post the Dyno results and impressions/experiences.

This is not a thread for debate about the pro's and cons of this vs. Vortech, Innovate, AVO, FBM, FA20Club, etc. That thread is found HERE This thread is for owner proven facts about this product only, both good and bad.

Replacement Belt if ever needed can be ordered. There are three known versions.
1. Original first revision with the smaller crank pulley and 90mm Rotrex pulley - 20mm width 150 teeth
HERE

2. Second revision with ** tooth crank pulley and 95mm Rotrex pulley - 20mm width 160 teeth
HERE

2. Third revision with ** tooth crank pulley and 95mm Rotrex pulley - 30mm width 160 teeth
HERE

Idler Pulley Bearing Replacement
Due to the fact that this kit does not have an auto-tensioner, I found that the belt can become too tight depending on the temperature. As I live in an area where the temperature can swing 86 degrees F within hours, I tend to keep my tension a bit on the loose side to prevent premature bearing failure on the idlers and the Rotrex.

I have the second revision of belt/pulleys on my kit and they use three 6203 bearings in the idler pulleys. You will need a strong pair of internal snap ring pliers for this job (the reversible style will not be strong enough). Bearings will need to have C3 clearance and be designed to work in hot environments. I have tried both F A G brand and NSK 6203C3 DUU bearings but the hot engine bay temperatures just cooked the grease out of them within weeks. So far, I have been having good success with Nachi 62032NSE bearings.

Here's Kraftwerks Dyno's for a reference point. Both Dyno's were performed on a Rototest HUBDYNO.

C30 Blower
This one is Stock BRZ vs Supercharged BRZ (95mm pulley) with stock headers and exhaust running 91 octane fuel. This shows a gain of 81.9HP and 55.1TQ.

Well put Mike ... my POV was simply to give enthusiasts who may not be in the 'know' a little background info on Bill. Not looking to sit here and argue who was FA20 powered, DPI, which ECU was harder to tune, etc.

While I absolutely believe Bill's tuning ability, throwing around those names have little correlation with the tuning of this kit.

Now, a proven track record of FA20 tuning would be a great example. For example, both Crawford BRZs and Robispec's FRS are tuned by Bill, and run strong!

Uploaded the install manual and added link on first post

digital_assassin 12-04-2013 04:45 PM

So far the install is coming right along. The manual is clear and easy to follow. The outlet was clocked to the wrong direction and I lost time figuring out how to properly change it without damaging the impeller blades but once I found the right documents it was no big deal.

Be watchful of this. The kit shipped with a slightly longer bolt than the 45mm specified and is in contact with the oil filter. I'm picking up 40mm bolts for $1 each tonight and swapping them out on both pulleys. Cheap and easy to rectify just be aware of it. Mine might be the only one shipped this way.
http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/...psvcplazpz.jpg

So far the quality and fit up of the parts is top notch. The 1 long bolt is my only issue. Good job @KraftWerks & @gmsii . I'll continue with the oil cooler and the intercooler tonight.

I'm surprised they didn't have the bolts going the other direction. It doesn't look like it in the picture, but would it be possible the put them the other way around? When you get the shorter bolts make sure they still have some threads sticking out the other side. It might be better to grind down the supplied bolts given how little threads are left.

Sorry to pick on the one negative, overall the install looks great, I can't wait to see your results.

The socket head bolts are recessed into the plate in a hole much smaller than the nut. A 45mm bolt will be just fine but it appears I was shipped a 50mm. There's about 10mm projection and all you need to have full capacity is a full nut of grip, projection does nothing. I'm going to try the 40mm for now and see if that flushes out.

grostoine 12-04-2013 10:28 PM

I don't see oil reservoir and cooler for the Rotrex ???

Oh and will I be able to keep my perrin lightweeight pulley or it only works with stock pulley?

Stock pulley. I'll post some pics of EVERYTHING tomorrow. I'm 100% done.

The first thread or two on most bolts is tapered to ease installation. I agree that you only need a full nut of grip, but not everyone knows what that actually means. You seem to, so this is just to make sure anyone reading this understands.

digital_assassin 12-05-2013 11:48 AM

So I finished the install last night. The oil cooler reservoir was a bitch due to the instruction sequence. I'll point this out to Kraftwerks. The brake lines need to be released from the car to get at this bolt in the picture. I think I had to release the brake line from 4 clips to get it to move enough to install the bracket.

http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/...psdd9uaxis.jpg

The instructions direct you to install the oil reservoir and then move to the oil cooler then the oil filter and then run the hoses. I would highly suggest that you install the fittings and hoses onto the oil reservoir and then bolt it to the bracket. If you install in the sequence in the instructions you will end up removing the oil reservoir to install the hoses. If you do it the way I suggest just make sure you are lining things up so you don't have to pull on the hose and move the fittings which may loosen them.

http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/...pskwhbqbzl.jpg

To install the Oil Cooler you will need to drop all the splash guards and the heavy plastic bottom piece to install the cooler to the A/C condenser.

http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/...psutzprrgp.jpg

Routing of the hoses for the oil cooler on the drivers side is best to tuck behind the washer reservoir neck like this
http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/...pslf0ej8dx.jpg

Intercooler and piping is a breeze. Here's the routing.

http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/...psqqdrmh6e.jpg
http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/...psmkbc9say.jpg

When finishing up with the bypass valve install the small vacuum line to it before you install the valve. Here is the routing I chose for this line and where I placed the T into the brake booster line. Kind of hard to see the small black hose. I'll try and get better pictures if anyone needs them.

grostoine 12-05-2013 12:45 PM

How hard was the install? How long does it takes you? Were you alone?

Exept the bolt lenght, did you get any issue during the install?

Did you start the car? how does it pulls ?

digital_assassin 12-05-2013 08:09 PM

This is a very easy install. I did it by myself and it took me 2 nights, or 8 hours total. It would have taken much less time if I didn't have to research how to change the outlet position of the Rotrex and if the Oil Reservoir / Cooler instructions were better. I would think that now that I've done one I could do it in about 5 hours start to finish.

I probably wont start the car till tomorrow. I didn't get a tune from KW and will be limping it to @Drift-Office on Saturday and dropping it with him for the week.

grostoine 12-05-2013 08:50 PM

I won't put the windshield washer bottle cause I don't even use my wiper's. Do you think i should be able to put the oilcooler of the rotrex where the washer bottle is supposed to go? I will certainly modified my bumper so there is enought air to it down.

KraftWerks 12-06-2013 02:33 PM

Thanks for taking the time to post an update on the install! Wish we could see the look on your face when you take it down the road for the first time.

By what means did you prime the traction fluid system?
You could remove the gearbelt and run N/A en route to Bob.

digital_assassin 12-06-2013 04:30 PM

I haven't primed it yet. I will be taking the belt off for the trip up north.

FT86Insider 12-08-2013 12:30 AM

Have you run into any issues with putting the bumper back on? Curious as to how the fitment is with the air filter in that location. Looks good though!

digital_assassin 12-08-2013 12:37 AM

I have an APR bumper and it didn't have any issues with the filter. Same location as Perrin CAI.

On an FRS there are a couple plastic air diverters screwed to the inside of the factory grill that will need to go.

digital_assassin 12-08-2013 01:35 AM

Next tip for you guys that bought the kit. To prime the Rotrex it is very easy (2 minutes easy) if you prime with air like the Rotrex manual states. I didn't try the method in the KW instructions but instead went to the depot and bought a Ryobi 12V Inflator ($20) that has a air mattress inflator (HVLP) and set it to 10PSI and filled the oil reservoir, loosened the Rotrex inlet and put a towel around the mattress nozzle and placed it in the top of the Oil Reservoir. Hit the switch and let it run for about 5 seconds and turned it off, removed the hose and checked the level. Refill and repeat this process until the oil starts seeping from the inlet at the Rotrex. Tighten the bolt and then follow the procedure to start the car and continue the fill. When it was all said and done I had used all but about the last 1 1/2 - 2 inches of oil in the supplied bottle. Be careful with this stuff, it's $100 a bottle and you need almost all of it. Also make sure once you start the priming process that you don't let air get into the line by running/pushing the reservoir dry.

My car made the drive to Bob today and all is well. Approx. 150 miles and no leaks or issues. There is a lot of the supercharger whine with this kit which I would attribute to the toothed belt. It sounds pretty cool IMO. And the Recirc/BOV makes some nice sound that you can hear but it's really tame, not screaming look I me... I'm boosted, but rather putting a smile on your face when you hear a faint PSSHHHH!

Pete156 12-09-2013 12:27 AM

DA,
I saw your car and install today at DO. It looks really good! Exposed gears! Aaaarrrr!
Be confident that you have left your car in the hands of some gifted tuners, who have the experience, expertise and patience to get the job done right. I am so glad I used DriftOffice for my FI tune.
Anxious to hear the results, from you or Bob.
Pete

jamesm 12-09-2013 11:11 AM

i'm not big on centrifugal blowers, but this is a nice kit. i love the toothed, separate belt. it'd be my choice if i were in the market.

digital_assassin 12-11-2013 10:14 AM

Tuning is well under way. Stay tuned for results from @Drift-Office
