So the human body can stop these various bugs. Figure out how that works, BANG, taken care of. Honestly, and I wouldn't wish death on anyone, but there are too many people around anyway and most of them suck. I'm not that bothered by the concept of 50% of them going away. It would be messy, but a pandemic that wipes out that many people would be a real job creator.
